If you're wondering what working together could actually look like, you'll find everything you need to decide right here.

Is this coaching right for you?

You don’t remember always feeling this way, but after everything you have experienced in your marriage, doubting yourself has become the new normal. You know you need things to change, but you may not be sure what, or how.

Trauma-informed coaching is a good fit if:

You want to shift how you feel deep inside, and then make the necessary changes in your life.

You would like a non-judgemental sounding board to create space, so you can make important decisions.

You’d like to work at your own pace, with someone who understands what you’ve been through.

You’re ready to commit to 10 sessions, and give yourself that time.

What we can focus on together

Every woman's relationship is unique, so your sessions will be tailored to what you need most, when you need it. I have worked with many professional women, and though their circumstances may differ, they often echo feelings of low self-worth, fear, anxiety, and overwhelm.

Remember that these emotions block your ability to think clearly. That’s just how we are made.  We'll always begin by creating calm and safety as a first priority. Once you feel more stable, we can work on whatever you need at your stage of the journey.

If you’re still deciding whether to leave or not:

  • We will work together so that you are really clear about what you want, without pressure either way.
  • If you’re feeling stuck making a choice, we will explore why, and work on getting unstuck.
  • We will work on planning your next steps safely, at your own pace.

If you’re in the middle of a separation or divorce:

  • We will explore strategies to stay calm as you have difficult conversations with your husband or family.
  • We will explore how to manage your energy as you work, handle the separation, and hold it all together during uncertain days.
  • We will work through the decision-making process at each step, so that you can plan the best possible outcome.

If you’re rebuilding after divorce:

  • We will delve into who you are now, and what you really want for your life.
  • We will work out the boundaries you need, and how to start putting them in place.
  • We will explore any other areas of your life where you'd like to make changes, and start taking the first steps.
  • We will build new habits for resilience and self-trust.

How trauma-informed coaching works

Trauma-informed coaching is different to regular coaching in one fundamental way. Regular coaching works on the premise that the client is already in thinking mode, and ready to work on goals.

Being in a difficult relationship means that you have been in fight-or-flight mode for a long time. This mode helps us survive, but it inhibits creative thinking. The top priority for a trauma-informed coach is to support the client to feel safe. Safety will be the foundation of all the work we do together.

In practice, this means we first work on simple exercises, such as breathing, opening up your peripheral vision, and calming your nervous system. We will also use grounding techniques and EMDR to help you come out of survival mode and back into thinking mode. These are techniques where we may use tapping, sound, or even eye movements to help you feel calmer. We will go at your pace, you decide what we explore, and you never have to relive every detail.

Once fight-or-flight becomes an occasional occurrence, you will notice the areas that you truly want to work on, in addition to the process of divorce. You may set goals for physical fitness, or want to start a new venture. All our work will then focus on cultivating self-leadership, as you move forward.

How trauma-informed coaching works

This is a gentle, supported process where we’ll explore what you would like to accomplish together over a 10-session period.

  1. We start with a free call

A relaxed, 20-minute, confidential conversation to see whether we’re the right fit.

  2. We begin where you are

In our first session, we slow down and look clearly at where you are right now. We really begin with exploring what feels the most urgent for you. This is very important, as it clears the space for the deeper work later on. We’ll use tools to help you feel more relaxed, grounded, and supported while we work on what you need most in the moment.

  3. We do the deep work

This is where the majority of our time together will be spent. We explore what may be contributing to the anxiety and pain, and we gently work through these experiences using EMDR and other tools to help you feel calm and safe again.

Life presents difficult experiences that are hard to make sense of. We’ll look at the parts of your story that still feel confusing, and begin to understand how those experiences may still be affecting you today. This process may also bring up beliefs that no longer serve you, and we’ll work together to shift them.

We will work together to uncover and release the people-pleasing patterns that may be keeping you stuck. This is where you will start to make changes toward looking after your own needs, building self-worth, setting boundaries, and learning to stay calm during challenging situations.

  4. You reclaim your life

The changes you make build and accumulate. You begin to trust yourself more, feel calmer inside, and make choices that reflect what you truly need. You develop greater resilience and the strength to hold healthier boundaries. By the end of our sessions, you’ll have tools you can keep using on your own to support strength and resilience through the next chapters of your life.

Frequently asked questions

Practical details to help you decide whether this individual coaching offer fits your life and what you need right now.

What happens on the free call?

No. There is no fixed curriculum. We tailor our conversations to what matters to you, whether you are deciding what to do, navigating separation or divorce, or rebuilding afterwards.

Do you work online?

Yes. All sessions are online. You will just need to be in a private space with a video connection, where you won't be disturbed for the whole session. My clients are from different parts of the world, so I am fairly flexible with timings. We work together to find times that will work for your schedule and mine.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes, the coach-client relationship is confidential. The only exceptions are if I feel that there is a risk of serious harm, or if the law requires that I report something. You will be signing a contract that lays out these terms for both of us. Many of my clients are in senior roles, and discretion is built into how I work.

Can you help me decide whether to leave my marriage?

Yes, I can help you to decide what’s right for you. I will help you be as calm as you can be during this difficult time, so that you can think clearly. We can then begin to explore the situation from various angles. It is my job as your coach to provide you with the much-needed space to talk things through, and vent if you need to. In between the sessions, there may be tasks that you will assign yourself, to help you come to the right choice for you.

It wouldn’t be right for me to tell you what to do, as it is not my decision to make. But I will support you to get really clear on what you want, and to trust your own judgement. You can come to a decision you feel confident about, whichever way you choose.

Can I start coaching in the middle of my divorce?

Yes. Many women start coaching when the process is already underway, because that’s when the stress and overwhelm are the highest. Coaching can help you manage the stress, and reduce the overwhelm. This will allow you to focus on making difficult decisions, and staying calm during challenging conversations. Coaching will teach you tools that you can use to get through the most triggering of moments.

What if I’m still living with my husband?

I’ve encountered this situation many times before, especially if you have not decided to leave. We can work together, as long as you can have some privacy. All we need is an internet connection, and a space where you feel safe and won’t be overheard. We can work while you’re at your office, in your home, even your car if necessary. We’ll plan the timing together, so your sessions feel safe and confidential.

Do I still need a solicitor?

I am not a lawyer so I cannot advise you on any legal matters. You may want a solicitor if you are proceeding with a legal separation or divorce. Your solicitor handles the legal side, and the coaching will be focused on your emotional wellbeing.

What happens after our 10 sessions?

By the end of our sessions, you’ll have tools you can keep using on your own. If you’d like further support, we can talk about what would help most at that point.

What if I don’t feel safe at home?

Your safety comes first. Not feeling safe is a valid emotional response, even when physical danger is not present, and this will be extremely important to address in our work together. If you need practical safety support, such as a safety plan or somewhere to stay, specialist helplines can help alongside our work: the National Domestic Abuse Helpline in the UK (0808 2000 247) or the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the US (1-800-799-7233). If you're ever in immediate danger, please contact the emergency services in your area straight away.
